About Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a holistic form of
bodywork that works by balancing the
meridian system. Chinese Medicine
teaches us that Qi (energy or life
force) runs in lines in the body.
When there is a disruption in the
flow of Qi, illness occurs.
Shiatsu addresses the flow of Qi
physically, and this address
physical problems like pain as well
as emotional issues like stress or
anxiety. The manual manipulation of
the meridian system in shiatsu
assists the body in healing itself.
The pressure is usually applied
using the thumbs, but in large areas
(like the back or legs) knees and
elbows are sometimes used. Stretches
are also applied to loosen up tight
areas and help the Qi to flow more
freely.
After a shiatsu treatment clients
generally feel relaxed, less
stressed, a reduction in pain,
improved breathing, and a general
feeling of wellbeing. Taking an hour
for a shiatsu treatment to address a
health concern whether it be a stiff
neck or stress, asthma or headaches
is an easy step towards better
health. |
